Adam had a penchant for getting into trouble. To be honest, he let himself be in trouble. It was called being ‘bait’. With his oversized hoodie and his slumped shoulders he looked like the average teenager. The thing the villain he was hunting on was after, apparently.
He kicked a pebble out of the way as he walked through the streets, getting bored with this thing. When working alone, he preferred taking on less powerful villains. The common crooks, the murderers and the robbers. This one seemed to be both; a robber and if his victims resisted, a murderer.
He considered giving up when he was, quite roughly, shoved into an alley, against a wall. He frowned, taking in the man that was pinning him against the brick wall. Seemed to match the description other victims had given. Adam quickly mentally recounted everything he knew about this guy; his modus operandi were glowy balls of fire that were meant to inspire fear into the victims, the murder weapon the same.
Adam tried to put as much distance between the man and himself, the brick wall uncomfortable against his back. “Hey, hey” he said, holding up one hand, the other inching to the gun in his belt. “I don’t want any trouble.” Aha, there it was, his gun...

Adam was kind of glad he was staying at his parents' house that weekend. He hadn't seen Dog in a long time, and it was good to get a walk in with him for once. Dog was really important to him - it was too bad he couldn't convince his landlords to let him come into the apartment. Adam sort of figured that most guys his age should have a dog, especially considering there were two other guys his age - and Pepper - living in his apartment, and he really didn't understand what his landlords had against them. He wasn't even allergic.
Dog stopped to use the facilities - namely a fire hydrant, and Adam looked up at the sky. Dark clouds were forming east of him, and it looked like it was going to rain. Damn. He hadn't brought an umbrella, and Dog was picky sometimes about when he was going to get wet. Looking around, Adam was trying to figure out if anyone would notice if he just pushed the clouds back by a few miles...
Oh. There were two guys in an alleyway near him, but they seemed pretty engrossed in whatever they were doing. Adam took a quick peek - nothing was going on as of yet. He really hoped they didn't look up and notice anything suspicious as he glanced up at the clouds, willing them a few miles back. He didn't want to make too much of a scene, and he certainly didn't want that Robin lady coming after him for another interview.

Adam was just about to do something that didn't involve getting his face melted off -something like pulling his gun and shooting him, taking a picture and collecting the bounty- when he saw someone walk into his peripheral vision. Really, at this place and this time? Just his luck.
The guy seemed to be looking around and not notice them -or ignore them, that was possible too, Adam didn't know- and Adam really cursed his luck. He didn't want to startle some civilian. He narrowed his eyes and started struggling. The mutt, who hadn't seen the civilian -and who possibly didn't care- flashed his powers around, fireballs randomly enlightening the alley, surrounding the man.
Adam didn't really feel comfortable with the heat this near his face. "Your money or your life" the man practically growled at him. Adam started struggling; if the man would just walk on, then he could take care of this.

Adam turned again to look at the two people in the alley. The boy against the wall seemed to be in some kind of trouble, and what looked like a mugger was actually another mutt throwing fireballs his way. Really, did some people have to be so showy?
He sighed, looking down at Dog, who was almost finished doing his business. He'd have to make this quick. Now he really regretted not bringing an umbrella. He looked up at the clouds he pushed back, silently apologized to them in his head, and moved them back to where they were coming, allowing them to open fire and start to pour - preventing the man from making any more fireballs.
"Don't you have anything better t'do with those? Seriously, go open up an open flame barbecue joint with that or something. I'm sure you'll make loads more money than what you can find on this guy." Somehow, it looked like the man was not going to leave. He'd have to take matters into his own hands. He looked down at his faithful companion. "Dog, go get him."
Adam ran down the alley after his dog, who was currently jumping up on the mugger mutt and gnawing into his pants leg. "Seriously, leave him alone. You don't know what you're doing,"

Adam glanced up when it started to pour. The fireballs extinguished, much to the mugger's dismay. Adam snickered softly. The guy he'd seen earlier surprised him by shouting at them, and the mugger turned around. The guy surprised him; it was rare for someone to help out when mutts were involved.
He was even more surprised when the dog started gnawing on pant leg and the guy joined them. Judging by the mugger's face, he wasn't the only one. Adam knew an opportunity when he saw them and took it, swiftly kneeing the man in the groin to release him before spinning them around.
He took a step back, so that if the man tried something he wouldn't be hit. He turned his head slightly to look at the guy as he drew his gun, pointing it at the mutt. "You better go, this guy may be dangerous" he warned the civilian.

Adam smirked when the man turned around, then laughed, shrugging. "Not so high up there now, are you?" He grinned down at Dog, who was ripping bits of fabric off the mugger's pants. "Good boy, Dog." Then, watching the boy getting robbed, he resisted the urge to go over there and give him a high five for kneeing the man in the balls. It was like that saying he heard once - start shit, get hit.
Adam held up his hand to the other boy. "Put the gun down, don't worry about it." He walked closer to the mugger. "Dog, chase him." The beagle growled at the mugger and snapped at him a few times, dripping rain running off his back, and got between the boy with the gun and the mugger, then began to advance on the villain.

Adam looked over his shoulder, narrowing his eyes. Who the hell did this guy think he was? He didn't lower the gun, watching the man get chased off by a beagle. Anticlimactic and frustrating. Adam could've used the bounty. As soon as he couldn't see the mugger anymore, he turned around to the other.
"Thanks, but that wasn't needed." He lowered his gun but didn't put it back, observing the civilian. He looked fairly normal. "Next time you should stay out if things like these. You could get hurt." He looked over his shoulder to see if the mugger was returning but so far no sign. Dammit, this could've been easy.

When the robber finally disappeared from his sight, Adam whistled as loud as he could, sticking his fingers into his mouth. It was a signal with intent behind it, and Dog caught it, beginning to trot back to his Master. He stopped to growl at a few suspicious-looking men who smelled much different than Adam, and the men told him to shoo. He got on his way as he heard another whistle.
Adam turned back to look at the other boy, shrugging his shoulders and putting his hands in his pockets. "Wasn't needed, yeah, okay, but I get tired of seeing pompous assholes who've got the powers terrorizin' the guys who don't, or lordin' above everyone. It's stupid. I just stop it before it starts. That guy's been poppin' up around me all week. It's like he's stalking me or something." He looked down at the gun and pointed at it. "You can put it away, 'm not gonna hurt you."
He looked down at the ground, kicking around a few pebbles as he hears Dog trot back to his side. He bends down to affectionately scratch the beagle behind the ears. "Good boy, Dog."

Adam shrugged, tucking his gun back but leaving a hand on it. He'd rather not take chances. He looked at the guy. Unassuming, which didn't say much. Had a very well-trained dog, apparently. Adam looked at the direction the other guy had ran. Who was apparently a stalker.
"That's nice of you, but that was my target" Adam said. He ran a hand through his hair, glaring half-heartedly at guy. He did it for a good reason, and that was all that should count. That didn't take away that it was still raining, Adam missed his mark and would probably be sore for no reason tomorrow.
"Some of us can take them on, y'know" he muttered. "If he keeps popping up, why don't you report him or something?" The man looked familiar. Maybe it was just the lack of light and sleep. The adrenaline that had been coursing through him was slowly fading by now.

"Target? You goin' after people or something? Some sort of mobster guy?" He scratched his chin. "Stop lookin' at me like that. I understand breakin' up fights, but...wow. Offin' people. That's different." When he realized the other boy was still glaring at him, he took the hint and awkwardly ran a hand through his hair. Oh. Wet hair. Right, it was still raining. He looked up at the sky, back down at Dog, who was looking up at him expectantly, and then back to the sky as he pushed back the rain clouds, and the storm settled down to a very scarce drizzle.
Dog pawed at the other boy's shoe, and Adam shook his head, pulling him back gently by the scruff of his neck. "Dog. You can't expect a treat from other people. It's not their job." He fished in his pocket and pulled out a few coins before finding a small dog biscuit and bent down to feed it to his beagle.
"I can take him down, too. I just choose not to." He shrugged. "I don't think we should all be fightin' eachother. He has powers and so do I, cool. He should leave me well alone, and he should get off his high horse because he an' me aren't any better or more special than the lot of us together in this city." Dog pulled at his pants leg, and Adam laughed, rolling his eyes and pulling out another small biscuit for him. "Dog, you're supposed to be on a diet," he joked.

Adam's eyes flicked to the sky when he noticed the weather was getting better, if only slightly. He quickly turned his attention back to the other. He almost felt inclined to just agree with the guy and get the hell of the streets until he was somewhat accused of being a mobster. "I'm a bounty hunter" he told him with a shrug. "It's what I do."
He looked at the dog, smiling slightly at its behavior. Adam wondered who would call his dog Dog. Well, not his problem. He was too busy to take care of a dog, much to his dismay. As a little boy, he'd always wanted a dog, but it had been out of the question. Too expensive.
"I'm not going to stand around if mutts start attacking the innocent people." Adam disapproved of this guys mentality; with great power came great responsibility and all that. Besides, he was still harboring somewhat of a grudge against villains. "Powers or not, he was still a killer."

"A bounty hunter?" Adam grinned. That, that he knew. That he understood. He'd watched Star Wars as a kid (and grown) entirely too many times - the prequels included, although that was something he'd never, ever admit to anyone. And Boba Fett, despite being a technical villain, was kind of a really cool and also complex character. Especially in the supplemental material. "Now that's kinda interesting. D'you guys at least get a cool helmet or anything?"
He knelt down and scratched Dog behind his ears, then looked up at Adam, shrugging. "You can get down here an' pet him if y'wanna. Dog doesn't bite, really. An' he loves attention. It's his number one priority in life, actually." Adam had a strange suspicion that this was every dog's priority in life, but that was another story for another day - particularly if he ever met another dog owner. Or another dog.
"Oh. Neither 'm I, to be perfectly honest. That's why I stopped him. I'm not above stoppin' em, I just...don't really take 'em down. I'm not really good at that, t'be honest with you. Much better at stoppin' people with words than with actions. The actions part tends to freak people out an' stuff." Adam had stopped a group of bikers who attempted to attack his three friends once. It was not pretty. The biker villains had faint allegiance-swaying powers, and they tried to get Adam on his side, and that scared the hell out of his friends. It took a lot of willpower and a lot of cajoling to pull Adam out of that trance. After that happened, he'd always been a little wary of actually taking sides in things.

"Yeah, a bounty hunter" Adam said, shoving his hands in his pockets. What did the guy think he was, Boba Fett? "Does it look like I've got a cool helmet?" A helmet would make them stand out, which wasn't really a smart thing to do when trying to hunt the villains down. Not that they allowed him to handle the more dangerous villains. Maybe when he had more experience.
Adam shrugged. "I'd rather not take any chances, I've seen him chase after the flameball guy." He liked his hand, thank you very much. He didn't want to antagonize the guy and have the animal chomp his hand off. Maybe he someone could heal him if that happened. Or stitch it back on, like they did in the first Darren Shan book.
"If you scare them enough they'll think twice when they want to murder us next time" Adam said. He wished there were more people for their cause, people who could've prevented his mother's killers from killing her, the only woman there had ever been in his life. "A bullet in the leg is enough to stop them already, I'm sure prison has wonderful healers and doctors."

"I din't know if you guys brought them around or not." He shrugged, looking down at the ground. The other guy must have thought he was stupid, or possibly crazy, but Adam honestly was kind of hoping bounty hunters did have cool weapons and costumes. "Was dumb of me. They'd prob'ly make you too visible, anyways. 'Specially if you're trying to be sneaky."
Adam shook his head, holding up his hands. "No, no, y'don't gotta worry. Dog only goes after people if I tell him to. He's a real good boy. But he's especially good to the ones that give him treats," he said, and held out a treat for Adam to take and feed to Dog.
"Guess you're right on that one. I actually did do that once...to, what'd they call themselves? The Horsepeople? They were nasty buggers. I haven't seen 'em since that, though." He shrugged, continuing on with the incessant questions. "So d'you guys get to bring them to the police an' everything?"

"We don't, we only bring them with us for the very secret special meetings" he said, trying to keep a serious face. "As a sign we're badass bounty hunters." He didn't know if there were secret meetings. It was probable that he wasn't allowed in if there were. Adam briefly wondered what they did there. Maybe braid each other's hair and paint their nails.
Adam looked at the treat before he took it, kneeling down and holding it out to the dog. "How did you train to do that?" he asked. He didn't have that much experience with dogs but it seemed to him that to train your dog like that you really needed some Caesar Millan skills.
"What did they do?" Adam frowned, trying to remember if he'd ever heard about them. Vaguely, somewhere in a book maybe, but nothing concrete. "Depends if we can take them to the police or if they try to shoot us."
