Personality: Anathema is an intelligent, headstrong young woman. She considers herself very bright, but sometimes comes off as a little bossy. She's also a bit impatient when it comes to prophecies and is easily frustrated when she feels stuck on how to write one of her visions out without seeming like the culprit. After all, how would she know how people did things in such shocking accuracy?
Anathema's biggest weakness is her severe tendency to make people uncomfortable. When reciting prophecies, she often speaks more quietly than usual and has a difficult time explaining herself, especially when she wasn't the one that had the vision. She has a habit of staring - not out of finding people strange, but for the fact that she's just trying to see their 'auras' and figure them out. She also goes around muttering to herself a little more often than most people would expect. The citizens in her area tend to let it slide, as they assume she's an artist, but any heroes she's worked with tend to find it a little off-putting.
Appearance: Anathema is a wispy-looking young woman. Many people would describe her as 'waif-like' and even a little creepy. She has dark hair and eyes and looks like she doesn't go out in the sun much - she actually does, but Anathema has a very difficult time getting any color on her skin at all. She keeps her hair long, for the most part, as she feels that short hair doesn't really suit her face shape too well.
Anathema tends to wear a lot of dark, flowy skirts and 3/4 length shirts. She also tends towards sundresses in the summer, especially when going outside to garden. She's also usually got a bag on her person detailing past predictions of members of her family and carries a butter knife with her at all times.
She acquired her hero disguise herself by shopping around at thrift stores and at a local renaissance faire. When assuming the identity of Oracle, Anathema wears a medium-length black cape with a large hood that she can obscure her eyes with, an oversized black sweater with plum trim, wristlets that hide her knives, black leggings and worn-out combat boots.
History: Anathema knew from the moment she could understand what a blood type was that she had a special ability - in fact, she had a vision of it. From the time that she was able to talk, she had been getting glimpses of future events, but never understood what was really going on.
Agnes Nutter was one of the first wave of mutt kids 100 years ago. She was imbibed with the special power of precognition. Unfortunately, the FML in the water proved a bit too strong for her body to handle, and she also suffered from dementia as a result. Agnes' predictions were nice and accurate, but more often than not vague. Agnes married into the Device family and her precognitive ability became a recessive gene that would only occur in female offspring with type O- blood.
The gene skipped two generations before it got to Anathema. Her grandmother was the last mutt kid born to the Device family, and before she died, she left a book to Anathema which the women of her family were still trying to decode: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. (The women of the Nutter-Device line had a penchant for choosing precise, if not unoriginal, code names.)
Secret Identity: Anathema recently finished up her Ph.D. at the local university. Currently, she lives alone in a small cottage in a residential area of Townsville. On her off time, she markets herself as a part-time 'psychic' and does tarot and palm-readings to make a living. She also enjoys cultivating a spice garden and making people believe she is an 'artist'.
Power: Anathema, like many other Type O Negative women in the Nutter-Device family before her, has inherited the power of precognition. She is able to forsee the future through dreams and what she calls 'flashes' - uncontrolled visions during her waking hours.
Since she began to hone her power when she was young, she has been a valuable asset to not-so-well minded mutt kids in Townsville. As a result of this, she has become quite good with slightly sharp objects such as bread knives.
RP Sample:
Anathema is milling about the tiny kitchen in the cottage, preparing her dinner for the night. She grabs some flounder out of her small freezer and places it in a large bowl in front of her, filling it with hot water from the tap.
Next, she walks a few steps over to her cupboard and pulls out a pot. Her vision flashes white and she unconsciously drops it to the floor. The pot falls on her toe and she stumbles, hopping on her foot from the shoot of pain up her leg, but everything's getting hazy. The room fades from her view and she feels herself slipping away...again.
A man with wide, tired eyes was wearing a dark coat. He slipped into a wide room, unannounced - there were no windows and few doors, so Anathema could barely tell what time it was. In the middle of the room, there was a glass case. The man slipped over to the glass case, unnoticed.
Gently, gently, he lifted up the cover, and-
The man stole the Declaration of Independence.
Anathema snapped back to reality, the pot still sitting on her big toe. She ran to the computer and began to make posts on forums, hoping she'd find a lead somewhere as to who this guy was.
